19.3 These are My Top 5 Must-Have Wardrobe Staples by Ilsa Melchiori

classic-clothes-must-haves-staples-fashion-i-am-ilsa-melchiori-michal-kulesza-e1489884701365.jpg

There are certain items of clothing that I find myself buying on repeat, desperately trying to find the 'perfect' one however never quite managing it. This constant search for this elusive thing (at a good price) is fast becoming a huge waste of time and money.

For me, the items in question are:

The perfect high-waisted skinny jeans in black and dark blue. I have an incredibly long torso which makes this VERY challenging. Over the years I've tried jeans from Urban Outfitters, Asos, Topshop, Rollas, Nobody, Levis, Lees, Noisy May, Acne, Sass and Bide, Country Road and many more.

The perfect 100% cotton or linen Breton striped top (long, 3/4 and short-sleeved) I want a navy with white stripes combo and a white with navy stripes combo. I am open to neckline variations here.

The perfect black heeled leather ankle boot/booties. With my long torso come VERY short legs. So, for me, I like/need my ankle boots to just skim under my ankle (a very tricky style to find since sock boots came into fashion). I had a pair that were perfect, but unfortunately, they have seen their last day. They were pretty much a dupe for the Rag & Bones Harrow Boot, these might need to be a future purchase.

The perfect black blazer. This is a totally achievable task. However, I've just been a cheap-skate recently. I just need to bite the bullet and pay some cash dollars for this item. A good quality tailored blazer will never go out of style.

The perfect slightly padded black lace bra. I'm a 10-12 DD-E (it varies depending on the brand). Bras have been hard work since my boobs got bigger. I used to be a 10C, those were simpler times. Anyway, bras are very personal, unfortunately, I'm just going to have to go and try a bunch on until I find some the work for me. I've found that in regards to bras that fit me, expensive isn't always better. Simone Perele = bad on me. Lovable = fab on me.

24.2 Friday Favourites: 4 Youtube Tutorials for Makeup for Glasses by Ilsa Melchiori

I am a glasses wearer. I have been since I was 13 years old.Over the years I've worn contact lenses for a large chunk of the time, however, in recent years I've found myself wanting to wear my glasses on the reg.

Enter my dilemma: make up for glasses? It's not as simple as 'do your makeup as normal and then whack on your glasses.

I find that you need to do things differently. Mostly I find that you need to just do more. More eyebrows, more mascara, more eyeliner etc.

Below are a few of my favourite tutorials for makeup for glasses that the beauty gurus of Youtube have to offer. These are in no particular order.

1.Tanya Burr - Everyday Makeup For Glasses

The best thing is that all these shows run for at least 6 seasons each. SO MUCH procrastination material!

3.2 Friday Favourites: 5 of the best Things I've Learnt About Make up by Ilsa Melchiori

friday-favourites-make-up.jpg

I started my make up education fairly late in life. My mother never wore it when I was growing up, I didn't have any sisters, and I was the 'girly' one in my friendship group in school. For this weeks Friday Favourites I decided to switch things up a bit and share with you 5 of the best (favourite) things I've learnt since the commencement of my make up education.

1.  Make up artists and sales assistants will ALWAY try and sell me foundation that is too dark for my skin tone. Yes I'm half Italian, yes I have yellow/olive toned skin, but I am pale as can be.

2.  The scent of a product can totally ruin it for me.

3.  Contouring is actually very simple. Here a tip, if you've been applying your bronzer is a 3 motion along the side of your face, you've basically been lightly contouring this whole time.

4.  Ran out of eye makeup remover? Olive oil works wonders, just try not to get it in your eyes.

5.  Hydration is the key. If your skin is dehydrated, then it doesn't matter what you do, your make-up will end up looking cakey and gross throughout the day.

27.1 Friday Favourites: My 5 Current Favourite Blogs by Ilsa Melchiori

img_7975.jpg

Today for Friday Favourites I am talking about some of my favourite blogs out there. I've been reading blogs for almost 9 years (including some of the ones listed below). A Beautiful Mess DIY, cooking, style, there's a little bit of everything on here. This blog is vibrant; in colour, style and personality. I have been following this sister duo for at least the last 5 years. They now have a team of people working for them, books, a subscription box service and lots more. They are #goals!

Chapter Friday I started reading this way back when it went by a completely different name and it was simply Founder, Yara, posting personal style photos. I love watching how she has developed this into its present-day adaptation. I particularly enjoy  the Careers section, with inspiring interviews with a range of amazing creatives and young business owners.

The Sartorialist Duh. Haven't we all lost hours of our lives staring at Scott's beautiful style portraits from around the world.

Nil Erurk Nil is a Turkish style blogger who, for some reason, I always related to. Check out her site for really beautiful personal style imagery.

Pages by Megan This is a new one for me, but I found myself instantly drawn in by Megan's kooky take on fashion. She is a self-confessed 'weirdo' and I love it! It's always so neat and refreshing to see people having such fun with clothing.

What are some of your favourite blogs? I'm always keen for some new discoveries!

Today's Friday Favourites is all about the ever-growing YouTube monster. Below are a few of my current favourite creators. Enjoy!

friday-fav_youtubers_image-1.jpg

1.  Helen Anderson What to expect: an alternative/creative take on YouTube classics. Helen's best content comes from when she is being true to herself and lets her creative freak flag fly. Love, love, love her spin on things.

2.  Lily Pebbles What to expect: beauty/make up videos, vlogs, but most importantly zero pretension! Lily is known primarily for her beauty content, which I love, however the reason she is one of my favourites is for her vlogs. There is just something so very relatable about her for me. It's a bit like watching myself (is that weird?).

3.  Lauren Toyota What to expect: What I eat in a day videos they are actually believable. Whether you are vegan, or like me, a hardcore carnivore, Lauren shows that cooking is about playing around and experimenting.

4.  Fleur de Force What to expect: all you YouTube beauty and style favourites done with class. Fleur was one of the first YouTuber's I found. She has been making videos for her channel for around 9 years nows, yet somehow her content always feels fresh. She always seems to be coming up with new video ideas/takes on old videos. Her real-time hauls are fantastic!

friday-favs_youtubers_image-2.jpg

5.  Claire Marshell What to expect: beautiful/different beauty and style content. Claire's videos are beautifully crafted works of art. She has a unique style and voice which translates amazingly to film.

6.  Melanie Murphy What to expect: Piercing green eyes and a mesmerizing Irish accent. Melanie covers a range of 'taboo' topics from periods, to acne, body image and sex. She is that funny friend I want to get drunk with and talk about girl stuff.

7.  Victoria aka IntheFrow

What to expect: style videos, make up tutorials, hauls, expensive shoes. Victoria has a PhD in fashion marketing from the University of Manchester. She knows her stuff. Huge high-end fashion lover.

8.  Lex Croucher What to expect: books, vegan beauty and sarcasm. I just believe that Lex is exactly the same in real life and that makes me so very happy.

9.  Nikki Limo What to expect: Tasty Tuesday; where she tries to cook, lots of puns & (great) bad jokes. There is something hugely satisfying about watching someone try to do something they know might fail. She tries so very hard, and 'sometimes it works'.

10.  Jen aka Clothesencounters What to expect: Style videos with a really high production quality. Jen has a slightly off beat style, she loves a great vintage find. Her style videos are some of the best (and  some of my favourite) on YouTube. Also worth a look are her vlogs featuring her BF and adorable puppy called Cheeky.

Who are some of your favourite YouTube creators or favourite Youtube channels?

17.1 Summer Saviours: Products to Get You Through Summer by Ilsa Melchiori

featured-image.jpg

I, like many other women in the world, get sweaty! And I'm not talking a ladylike glisten. Me and extreme heat DO NOT get along.

Over the years I've developed a list a products/tricks to help me get through Australian summers whilst still looking vaguely presentable.

summer-saviours.jpg

1. Bike Shorts To be worn underneath skirts and dresses to combat leg chafing (or 'chub rub'). This has been a constant problem for me because of the shape of my body, whether I'm a size 8 or 14, it doesn't matter.

2. Body Glide Anti-Chafing Stick Basically a Lady Speed stick deodorant for your inner thighs. Not a bad product, although I found that it wore off very quickly if you were sweaty...

3. Jurlique Rose Water This is my favourite refreshing facial mist on the market. It was also the first Jurlique product I ever owned. A classic that I carry in my handbag for when my need a little freshening up.

4. Spray Sunscreens I'm currently using the Mecca Cosmetica Sunbrella Invisible Superspray SPF 50+ which is a clear, spray, water resistant, broad spectrum face and body sunscreen. This is great because you can spray it on over your make up throughout the day without messing up your carefully applied face. Supergoop also do a great one called the Defence Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50+.

5. Benefit Fake Up Concealer This is one of the few concealers that will stay put under my eyes in the hot weather. I have very dry/dehydrated skin and my normal concealers just can't cut it when you introduce sweat to the equation.

TIP: Use a water proof mascara on your bottom lashes, or forego mascara on your bottom lashes entirely. I do find that I get mascara transfer.

6. Water Lastly, but most importantly, water! It is so important to stay hydrated in the hot months. I always carry a bottle of water around with me and aim to drink at least 1-2 litres a day.

So there are a few of my Summer Saviours.

Remember to Slip, Slop, Slap and stay hydrated!

13.1 Friday Favourites: My 6 Current Favourite Podcasts by Ilsa Melchiori

img_7841.jpg
I'm addicted to podcasts. I just love listening to them while I'm working, exercising, driving, whenever!

Here are a few of my current favourites.

Ladies Who Lunch

YouTube stars Ingrid Nilsen and Cat Valdes discuss all kinds of topics one would normally discuss over a meal, or drinks, with a close girlfriend. Sex, indignity, relationships, their careers, you name it!

Betty in The Sky With a Suitcase

Air hostess for a major airline tells stories of her travel and working experiences. Funny short anecdotes about the weird stuff the happens in planes.

Here's The Thing with Alec Baldwin

That voice...

Not Too Deep with Grace Helbig

The ever dry, weird and sarcastic Grace Helbig asks all the questions no one was wondering about. Hilarious. Approach with caution at work, I've burst out laughing at my desk on more than one occasion getting disapproving looks from my coworkers.

Home Coming

Akin to an old radio drama, this is the first attempt at this style that has truly worked in my opinion. This psychological thriller is brought to you by Gimlet Media and stars Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac and David Schwimmer.

Alt Ctrl Delete.

New favourite. Love Emma Gannon.
